The Energy Planning & Sustainable Development training course, organized by the Oxford Management Centre, is an intensive five-day program designed to equip participants from both public and private sectors with essential skills and knowledge for effective energy portfolio planning. This course emphasizes global best practices in resource management, climate change mitigation strategies, and environmental sustainability. Participants will learn how to envision a sustainable energy future, reconcile varying stakeholder perspectives, analyze costs and benefits of energy plans, and develop detailed implementation strategies. The course aims to deepen understanding of various long-term planning approaches, including Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and the emerging Integrated Resource Resilience Planning (IRRP), which incorporates climate resilience into energy strategies. Throughout the training, attendees will gain practical insights into establishing baselines for current energy scenarios and defining pathways to achieve desired community energy goals. They will explore how to engage diverse stakeholders in the design of sustainable energy plans for electricity and transportation sectors. Key outcomes of the course include the ability to analyze stakeholder inputs, implement sustainable energy initiatives, and leverage community resources for effective energy planning. Participants will also be exposed to proven adult learning techniques, including engaging presentations featuring charts, illustrations, videos, and case studies that enhance understanding of the subject matter. In addition to individual empowerment, organizations sending employees to this course will benefit significantly. The knowledge gained will aid in the development and implementation of sustainable energy planning processes, providing a competitive edge in the clean energy sector. Participants will learn to align their sustainable development goals with economic growth, understand stakeholder motivations, and identify potential challenges in energy plan implementation. Ultimately, this course is tailored for a wide range of professionals including officials from national and subnational energy and planning ministries, independent standards operators, and sustainable energy providers.
