National Ambient Energy for Buildings Research Symposium

🗓️07/09/2025-10/09/2025

📍United States

The National Ambient Energy for Buildings Research Symposium (NAEBRS) is set to take place at the historic Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico, a venue rich in cultural and geological significance. This symposium will focus on the latest advancements in passive solar technology, which is crucial for enhancing sustainability, resilience, and biophilic design in our living environments. Ghost Ranch, with its stunning landscapes that inspired the renowned artist Georgia O'Keeffe, serves as a fitting backdrop for this gathering of innovators and researchers dedicated to ambient energy use in buildings. NAEBRS will honor the pioneers of passive solar technology, tracing its roots back to the Life Support Technics Conference initiated by Peter van Dresser and Steve Baer in 1972. The legacy of this early Conference is embodied in the passive solar test cabins established at Ghost Ranch in 1974 by van Dresser, Mark Chalom, and their colleagues; these structures remain a testament to the ingenuity of integrating indigenous architectural principles with modern energy solutions. The symposium will facilitate collaboration among participants, enabling the sharing of ideas and innovations that advance the field of sustainable building design. The first 55 accepted abstracts will benefit from complimentary room, board, and registration, while additional participants can join either in-person or virtually, with unfunded attendees responsible for their own accommodations. The event is organized by the University of Louisville, with Keith Sharp and Julian Wang serving as Project Co-Directors, emphasizing the commitment to designing beautiful and functional buildings that work effectively.
